Many  people who influenced their fields, and an impressive list of those who effected far reaching changes in society, were born with prominent Pluto-Chiron symbolism.    Civilization was never the same after Da Vinci, Freud, Edison, Karl Marx, Pablo Picasso or Timothy Leary, all born with PC aspects.  The feminist movement was launched with Betty Friedan's (natal PC)  Feminine Mystique, published with Pluto opposite Chiron (February 1963).   Author Betty Friedan was born with the square.  Susan B. Anthony was born with a conjunction.  

 

Cultural forces like manias and crazes occur with Pluto/Chiron symbolism with some regularity, either in the natal charts of the people who ignite them, or at the time of the phenomenon.   Sinatramania was sparked when Pluto was in aspect to Sinatra's natal Chiron (semi-octile).  Elvis had the natal picture.  There are many instances when a natal chart contains no Pluto-Chiron symbolism but a transiting aspect marks a world changing event, whether or not it makes a contact to the natal chart of the person at its center.  Steve Jobs (no natal symbolism) released Apple's first consumer product (the Apple II) when progressed Pluto=natal Chiron.  Bob Dylan's first album was released on a transiting opposition.  "A night that changed American culture", the Beatles 1st appearance on American TV occurred on the same opposition.  The Jackson 5's and Madonna's first records were released on P/C transits.

 

There is a celebrity consciousness common mostly among more modern artists, like Andy Warhol, Kanye West and Woody Allen.  

History's stylemakers:  Queen Elizabeth I was a  Celebrity Queen.  When her teeth went bad, people blackened their teeth to be like her.  Jean Harlow made women bleach their hair blond. 

Record setters, list makers, people who are the first, the last, the youngest, the oldest, the only, the most as well as hold titles such as "The Father of Modern Art (Cezanne) and "The Godfather of Soul" (James Brown), commonly have an aspect of Pluto and Chiron. 

 

There is no intrinsic positive or negative:  Crime and criminals who provoke mass interest and have books and movies made about them, often have a Pluto/Chiron aspect.  Hinduism was launched in the U.S with Pluto square Chiron, just  1' from exact, "I have a dream" was first uttered with Pluto opposite Chiron and transiting Pluto conjunct Hitler's natal Chiron the Nazi party was founded.  

The force of Pluto combined with Chiron is understandable with a  mania, a craze or fans (fanatics);  the words connote  psychological disorder.   Chiron can also be seen as part of the contributions of  Freud and Friedan, who addressed individual and societal wounds.  Record-setters and people who influenced their fields certainly have drive and the obsessive focus of Pluto also cannot be ignored.  Amelia Earhart said "I knew I had to fly", at the time T. Pluto was with Chiron, although she had no observable natal aspect.

 

Another explanation is that they have differentiated themselves; they have set themselves apart, like David Bowie's "leper messiah".

Some of the most popular work by media artists without natal Pluto/Chiron aspects was created or debuted on transits of Pluto and Chiron.   When "The Wizard of Oz" began filming, Judy Garland, who had no natal aspect, had a transiting conjunction Chiron to natal Pluto.  Other A+ listers like Bob Dylan, Elton John,  Madonna and  Michael Jackson debuted their first breakthrough albums at the time of a transiting aspect of Pluto and Chiron.  None of them had the natal aspect.  

When you learn about something or someone that becomes a sensation, you can often tell right away that  Pluto/Chiron is a likely ingredient.  I heard about an obscure young poet who wrote a love poem that someone turned into a song.  The song became popular.  It became Adolph Hitler's favorite song.  He liked the song so much, he had the entire German army stop what they were doing every single night to listen to that song.  The song is "Lili Marlene"; the poet was born with a tight Pluto/Chiron square.  (Hans Leip Setember 22, 1893)

You read about it all the time in the news, when you read about people who cause a great sensation like Greta Thunberg who has the natal trine.

Sensations happen all the time.  One morning I read about an authors's success and widespread recognition.(Iris Chang).  She had no natal picture.  But the day her successful work was published, T. Pluto=T. Chiron (semi octile) and T. Pluto was a degree away and approaching her N. My own observation is that Chiron corresponds not only with someone's wounds and healing, but

astrology, Pluto most commonly refers to resources like inheritance or insurance, investment,  IRA, 

subsidies, and variety of common banking interactions like mortgages.  One way Pluto and Chiron 

operate financially is the provision of resources for people in need, through  charity, disability, 

workers' compensation, compensation for injury, as well as grants and subsidies.

Effecting the transformation of a wounded psyche by plumbing the depths, psychology is one way  Pluto/Chiron operates.   An article by Shirley Soffer contained the charts of 10 psychologists¹; 6 had major aspects of PC, as did other prominent psychologists, such as Jean Piaget, not included in the article (see Psychologist Data).  Every psychologist, patient and author mentioned in this section was born natal Pluto/Chiron aspects.  Several had relevant financial histories too.  Indeed, when they had the progression or transiting contact, the important event of the time was financial, as it is with most people, most of the time.  It's also important to remember these were among the first in the field; they were sensations in their field.

 

Sigmund Freud retains an uber-status in the influence of consciousness.  His name is in the lexicon, the "Freudian slip". 

was born with a P-C square, which, for the last 20 years of his life  were  5' from exact, by progression.  During that time, Freud's exit from Nazi Germany with money and his possessions

A religious leader who claims to raise the dead, a life saving discovery made amidst cadavers and a lawsuit that ends after 25 years, only when the plaintiff dies; all were symbolized by PC.  (Oral Roberts, Ignaz  Semelweis and George Westinghouse respectively.)    However, the aspect was  as not apparent in the natal charts of an executioner or mortician.

In some of history's worst financial downturns, mostly the result of "bubbles", mania-like speculation, Pluto-Chiron aspects were a part of the symbolic components .  (1)  It happens to individuals: Tom Brady had P. Pluto/Chiron when he got involved with ill fated crypto business.

Speculation in debt was  a major ingredient; like the South Sea Bubble

Attempts at economic reconstruction is also seen with Pluto/Chiron.  At the worst point of  The Great

 Depression, relief efforts were assumed by the federal government.  Transiting Chiron was conjunct 

the natal Pluto and transiting Pluto was square the Chiron of then-President Hoover (May --July, 

1932)(2).   Charged with ending the depression, Franklin Delano Roosevelt was elected with 

transiting Chiron conjunct natal Pluto.   His New Deal's most ambitious project, the WPA, was 

established with transiting Pluto and Chiron forming an antiscia (April 8, 1935).   Government 

intervention as necessary to prevent boom and bust economies,  a radical departure from the reigning 

free market theory, which promoted private lower wages in private industry to spur full 

employment was  inspired by 1936 work The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money, 

published when transiting Pluto and Chiron formed an exact sesquiquadrate in February, 1936. (3) 

 Keynesian methodology, hotly contested by business people and other economic conservatives,

 was used as part of Barack Obama's economic rescue of 2008--2009, (4)   Obama was born with the

 opposition.

Radical reactions to financial inequity (and alternative economies, even conservative ones) also includes P-C symbolism.   The French Revolution began on a Pluto station trine to Chiron on May 5, 1789. Before the 1601 Elizabethan Poor Laws, how much beggars could be flogged, was the only 

legislation for dealing with poverty.  The Poor Laws (known at the time as the Statute of Elizabeth)

distinguished between the "professional beggar" and those unable to fend for themselves.   (1) 

Elizabeth was born with Pluto and Chiron forming a semi-octile (13' orb).

The founders two of the world's largest charities, The United Way and The Salvation Army, were 

born with natal Pluto/Chiron pictures.  The world's first Health Insurance Act was passed in

Medicaid, part of Lyndon Johnson's "Great Society" program, were rolled out at his second

·        The Hunger Project was conceived by Werner Erhart, with T. Chiron square N. Pluto in February 1977 and launched with T. Pluto square Chiron November of 1977. (8)   At the same time, his natal conjunction of Chiron and Vulcanus were 1' from exact.

Imposing and avoiding taxes is seen with Pluto/Chiron.   Tax issues helped shaped the British 

political system. 

 The House of Commons right to grant taxes was the means by which it first gained power, by 

helping King Edward III wage very expensive wars, in particular the Hundred Years War.  He'd 

launched a series of unsuccessful schemes to raise revenue by imposing customs taxes his natal 

Pluto-Chiron aspect became exact by progression (1336), but it when transiting Pluto triggered the 

natal configuration in 1353 that Parliament approved the tax, which remains in effect today.¹

 

Parliament wielded its power in tax issues over Queen Elizabeth I by refusing her funds until she 

married, when T. Chiron stationed conjunct her natal Pluto, triggering her natal P-C symbolism 

(September 1566).²  Elizabeth also had natal Pluto opposite Kronos, never more than 5' apart, all  her life.  She was a  Celebrity Queen.  When her teeth went bad, people blackened their teeth to be like her.

 

"No taxation without representation",  the American Revolution the rallying cry is  attributed to 

Patrick Henry, but actually,  the phrase was coined by Reverend John Mayhew, born with the 

opposition.³

 

When U.S. tax legislation was enacted 1913 by Woodrow Wilson, P. Pluto was square to N. Chiron 5'

FINANCIAL IRREGULARITES

 

CRIMINAL ACTIVITY

Pluto-Chiron is one astrological signature for financial irregularities.  The notorious Jeffrey Madoff 

was born with Jupiter, Saturn and the Node on the Pluto/Chiron midpoint.  

 

For his role in opening 2 million accounts without the customers' consent, former Wells Fargo 

President John Stumpf was grilled by both the House and the Senate about his role in the bank's 

employees opening  two million accounts without the customers' consent.  He resigned and 

returned 41 million dollars in compensation. ¹  Stumpf had no natal Pluto-Chiron aspect, but at the 

time of the congressional hearing,  his resignation and voluntary forfeiture of compensation, 

transiting Pluto was conjunct his natal Chiron.  At the time, transiting Pluto was also in aspect 

to transiting Chiron (see page ___________ A Recent Pluto Transit 2016/2017).  When the aspect 

was just 5' from exact (September 21, 2016), the House Oversight and Government Reform 

Committee questioned the president of Mylan Labs about  insurance irregularities and price gouging

 of their lifesaving bestseller, the EpiPen.²  The company's president, Heather Bresch has a 

prominent natal P-C picture and at the time the public outcry and investigation, transiting Chiron was

 opposite Pluto.  Bresch was one of the first to move an American company to Ireland for the tax 

benefits, known in business as tax inversion to increase profits. ³   She's also got Saturn=Pluto and 

Saturn in Taurus.

US$600 illion syndicated loan.^[2014 the French Financial Markets Regulator fined Elliott a record €14 

million ($22 million) for insider trading

 

Pluto-Chiron is seen in some instances of extortion.

·        When Bill Cosby was blackmailed by a woman claiming to be his daughter, transiting Pluto triggered his natal configuration of Sun=Venus=Chiron.  The woman, Autumn Jackson,  has natal Venus=Saturn on the Pluto/Chiron midpoint. (Event 1/18/1997)  ⁴

·        Charlie Sheen got an extortion threat, prompting him to go public with HIV condition. ⁵  At the time of the threat, transiting Chiron station was opposite his natal Pluto.  (Event November 17, 2015)

·        David Letterman got an "extortion package" placed in his car ⁶ when P. Mercury was 2' from his P/C midpoint.  (September 9, 2009)

·        Another instance of P. Mercury=Pluto/Chiron: a brother received an extortion threat on the life of his sister  when she had this progression.  The brother has natal Pluto/Chiron=Aries=Venus=Jupiter=Ceres=MC.  When the extortion letter arrived in a cake,⁷ he had P. Ceres 4' from Pluto/Chiron midpoint.  (John and Linda de Mol)

Litigation, Business Losses, Inheritance Issues

Alexander Graham Bell and Thomas Edison were born less than one month apart; both horoscopes 

contained an opposition of Pluto and Chiron.  Both faced litigation with rival inventors/companies 

contesting the right to their patents, when transiting Chiron conjoined Pluto.  Bell first patented 

the telephone, just hours before another patent for a telephone was filed by a rival inventor in March

 1876.  Months later, a lawsuit began that dogged Bell for 25 years.  The seeds of the event were 

marked by the conjunction, with the litigation unfolding in the months afterward.  The litigation 

ended only when Bell's business adversary died, when transiting Chiron again triggered Bell's natal 

opposition, before a final verdict was ever reached. ¹

 

At the same time in 1876, Edison dissolved a business partnership and in a separate business 

alliance,  he faced legal proceedings begun by Western Union.   In Edison's his litigious lifetime, this 

particular lawsuit lasted 37 years, and was the focus of litigation in three states and three federal 

cases.  Edison eventually prevailed.²  The importance of the suit (one of many in which he was

 involved) was eclipsed by the creation that same year, of the laboratory in Menlo Park, the home of 

his greatest inventions.

CoCo Chanel was 'lucky' in terms of attracting investors (North Node Scorpio), but the business

arrangements  were complicated by natal Sun=Pluto/Hades as well as Pluto conjunct Chiron.   

Wealthy backers helped her launch Chanel No. 5 perfume, when T. Pluto triggered her natal 

Sun=Pluto/Hades configuration (ssq 1924) but they  removed her from the presidency of her own 

company when T. Chiron conjoined her natal Pluto-Chiron conjunction between 1933 and 1934.    

She retaliated against her Jewish investors during WWII by petitioning German officials to legalize 

her claim as sole owner of the business in a letter written when T. Pluto was on the antiscia of N. 

Chiron (May 5, 1941), describing her business as  "still the property of Jews".³

Picasso's estate was litigated for years by the mother of 2 of his children, Francoise Gilot.  In retaliation for her tell-all book My Life with Picasso, he never spoke to either of his children again, nor did he include them in his will.  Gilot's suit won over a billion dollars for the children.4  Both Picasso's and Gilot's horoscopes contain P-C pictures.   

        One of the children (Paloma Picasso), had a natal T-cross on the dial of Aries=Mars=Pluto=Chiron, within 1 1/2 degrees of orb.  When they won the lawsuit, she had P. Chiron just 1' from natal Pluto by semi-octile.  

 

          A resentful wife, who'd been sequestered in a palace for the best years of her life, got revenge when Egyptian King Fuad died, by selling his lavish royal wardrobe to a second hand store.  Fuad was born with the declination.

 

Debt, bankruptcy, one's own dwindling or ill-handled resources or association with an 

employer or business contact who wastes, loses or misappropriates financial resources may also

be symbolized by Pluto/Chiron.

Pluto with Chiron is operating more than one way.   Power and powerlessness provide the sexual stimulation.  In a very small sample of S&M enthusiasts, about half had P-C symbolism, including the S&M liberation group. 

Also, there is her sexual alone-ness.  Dickinson was an isolated, sexually charged virgin  "Chaste passion" is how its described in Wuthering Heights, which has its own section.

Death was a major theme. She grew up by a cemetery.  She lost 5 of her nearest and dearest in  3 years.  Death vies for her most frequent subject.

OBSCENITY 

Walt Whitman was an American media celebrity in his day, inspiring "Whitman-mania" in Britain and Germany. ¹  His work was severely edited for its sexual content  ("bowdlerized", in his words²) when transiting Chiron triggered his natal Pluto/Chiron conjunction (1868).   Neither James Joyce nor Henry Miller had the natal picture, but Pluto/Chiron symbolism dotted the publication histories of their work and challenges with obscenity laws.   Joyce's Ulysses, prosecuted for obscenity and banned ³ was published with transiting Pluto and Chiron in opposition in February of 1922.    Tropic of Cancer was published and also banned in the U.S when, in the author's chart, P. Chiron just 4' from his natal Pluto (semi-octile, September, 1934).   When it was finally published legally in the U.S. in June of 1961, more than 60 obscenity lawsuits in 21 states were filed. ⁴  T. Pluto and Chiron were in opposition.  

A high point in obscenity legislation occurred with what has become part of the lexicon, to describe pornography: "I know it when I see it", comes from a Supreme Court decision overturning the conviction of a porn movie theater manager,⁵ in a hearing begun with transiting Pluto opposite Chiron precisely in March 1963.   Saturn and the South Node in Scorpio as well as Venus/Mars aspects and midpoints are also found in the charts of authors who've been censored.                                                                             

After years of looking at Pluto/Chiron, it occurs to me that these events were sensational and that is

a major Pluto/Chiron attribute.

 Medicine and death:

·        The incidence of infection after working with cadavers without washing properly     afterwards led to the discovery that hygiene matters when treating patients.  (Ignaz  Semelweis Neptune/Chiron was the more pertinent  natal picture)
