VESTA CHIRON

Vesta/Chiron combined  by aspect or in midpoint pictures often symbolize hospitals and healing locations:

Vesta and Chiron: Heath Care Facilities

Among the giant names in the history of hospital care, like Florence Nightingale, Johns Hopkins and Charles Mayo, Vesta/Chiron is a common planetary component.  Nightingale turned hospitals into dramatically more effective life saving institutions, and the world over, hospitals have her name, others have her statue.  Johns Hopkins was a wealthy guy with no wife or kids or any particular connection with health care, before he provided the funding in his will for what would become a world class hospital.  (1) 

Charles Worral Mayo's four degree conjunction  was part of a larger picture of Saturn=Uranus=Neptune=Pluto=Vesta=Pallas=Cupido=Chiron.  The disruptive and potentially life threatening influences of every outer planet are reflected in the origins of the Mayo clinic, in a local dance hall during a tornado in the Minnesota hinterlands, where no better health care facilities existed. (2)  Transiting Chiron was triggering the configuration.   Another evident  part of the configuration was Cupido, associated with social life, entertainment and art.  That year, his SR contained Saturn=Pluto=Vesta/Chiron and his p. ASC came to Vesta/Chiron by solar arc with an orb of 15', although his AA-rated TOB is probably rounded off.   Mother Cabrini's chart contained a minor aspect of Vesta and Chiron.  The aspect is more common among people who start or head hospitals than in the charts of hospital employees.

Nehru's wife started a hospital in her home.  His SR Venus=Vesta/Chiron (1930 SR)

It's not uncommon for celebrities to start treatment facilities.  Olivia Newton-John has a Health and Wellness Center for Cancer treatment (3) and  Eric Clapton opened Crossroad Rehab. (4)  The Betty Ford Centers are intrinsic to her legacy.   In addition to their prominent natal symbolism,  all had transiting and SR pictures when their centers opened.   The aspect also corresponds with entering a treatment facility.  When she was admitted to a hospital for dependence on alcohol and pills, (5) an opposition of transiting Vesta and Chiron formed an aspect to n. Neptune.  It was just days before her birthday and the opposition appeared in her SR as well.    When the Betty Ford Center was launched, T. Neptune was conjunct her North Node.  The experiences of these celebrities had a particularly Chironian attribute, their personal wound. 

Some people who've been hospitalized frequently or for a long time have this aspect.  Suffering lifelong episodes of ill health after he was thrown from a horse, King George V's hospitalizations were  often marked by Vesta/Chiron contacts.  On one progressed contact,  his doctors sent him on a recuperative cruise (6), illustrating, as did the Mayo clinic's origins in a dance hall,  the variety of possibilities for what constitutes a healing environment.   Bill Clinton had no health considerations when he moved to Hot Springs, when his natal declination became exact by progression, just happening to move to a place where medicinal powers of the thermal springs are "the subject of legend among Native American Tribes" (7)

Planets on the midpoint are like adjectives and the Moon commonly refers to a woman.  Psychoanalyst Erich Fromm's natal picture of Moon=Vesta/Chiron reappeared in his 1926  SR when he married  Frieda Reichmann and she opened the sanitarium where they worked together. (8)  (Reichmann had natal Vesta//Neptune.)   Years later,  he found her a job at a the Chestnut Lodge Institute, with SR Venus=Vesta/Chiron. (9)  It was there she treated Joanne Greenberg, who chronicled her illness and therapy with Reichmann in the novel  I Never Promised You A Rose Garden.  (10)  Born with the identical picture to Fromm's was Allen Ginsberg, with the woman in his life being his mother who was hospitalized intermittently for emotional issues. (11) Her longest hospitalization occurred with Vesta was just four minutes from the Vesta/Chiron midpoint.   Ted Turner's sister suffered from terminal lupus. "She used to go around the apartment and run into the padded walls and say, ‘God, I’m in such pain; please let me die." (12) His natal chart contains Mercury=Chiron/Vesta, with Mercury, in this instance, symbolizing siblings.  Paul McCartney made multi-million dollar donations to the hospitals where his wife was treated for cancer (13) His SR contained Moon=Vesta=Chiron in his SR and transiting Sun and Mars triggered his prominent natal symbolism.

Displacement

Moves which separate people are possible with any Chiron contact.  These instances were chosen because they illustrate natal Vesta/Chiron symbolism, triggered at the time of the events. 

Especially Chironian are moves separating children from parents.  Freddie Mercury saw his parents just once a year for 10 years, after he was sent to school in India at age nine. (14) Billy Joel's father moved to Germany after his parents divorced. (15) Both Mercury and Joel had natal declinations which became exact when the moves that split their families occurred, as did Prince William, when Diana died and the children went to live elsewhere. (16) Harry has n. Saturn=Vesta/Chiron, with  p. Saturn just one minute from the midpoint at the time.

Charlie Chaplin and Marilyn Monroe had identical, prominent and precise natal pictures.    At just 12 days old, Marilyn was placed in foster care.  (17) Six year old Charlie Chaplin was placed in a workhouse when his mother was institutionalized.  (18)  His SR contained Sun=Vesta/Chiron.  When p. Vesta was three minutes from exact with Chiron, nine-year old  Chaplin was shipped off by his father on a tour of northern English music halls as a clog dancer, unaccompanied by either parent. (19)  P. Vesta was approaching n. Chiron with a three minute orb when began and the aspect was just four minutes away, separating, when the tour ended.  CoCo Chanel entered an orphanage at age twelve. (20) when her natal symbolism was triggered by transiting Chiron conjunct natal Vesta, and the aspect re appearing in her SR.

Madonna, has both a prominent Vesta/Chiron and a twelfth house Sun.  She funded the Raising Malawi Academy (21) for (orphaned) Girls which launched when p. Sun=Vesta/Chiron precisely.   She adopted her son, whom she met in an orphanage, with T. Chiron forming an aspect to her N. Vesta.  When she adopted her youngest, her Moon was SA Vesta/Chiron.  (22)

Another way you could be shut out of the family's home might come in the form a legal ruling, which happened on the world stage to Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian whose marriage agreement barred him from inheriting family property. (23)

There are instances of Vesta/Chiron among POW''s.  "Charles DeGaulle's unit gained recognition for repeatedly crawling out into no-man's-land to listen to the conversations of the enemy in their trenches".  P. Mercury triggered natal Vesta and Chiron, he wrote  "The Enemy Inside and the Enemy Outside" (24) while incarcerated.   John McCain spent 5 years as a POW "kept in wretched conditions".  Born with  Mars=Chiron/Vesta, his capture and transport to the "Hanoi Hilton" was marked by a transiting square on Mars, Uranus and Chiron, forming an aspect to this natal configuration. (25)

"Wounded" locations

Even without imprisonment, the location symbolized by this aspect may be inhospitable, unhealthy or dangerous.  A "vast wasteland', the term characterizing TV,  was coined when T. Chiron was in aspect to T. Vesta; (26); the authors of "The Wasteland" (27) and Trashing the Planet (28) have natal aspects.

Jeff Bridges and Thomas Jefferson had identical natal aspects.  When a fire destroyed Thomas Jefferson's home, the picture recurred in his SR.  Thousands of books were lost, (29) symbolized by Mercury SA Vesta/Chiron, just two minutes from exact.  When the nation needed a capital,  Jefferson brokered the deal.  P. Chiron was two minutes from exact with Vesta.  The capital would be built in Washington, D.C., which was humid, swampy, muddy and without adequate drainage,  which became more apparent once projects began to be executed.  Ten years later  "'the city would be pocked not only with unfinished projects but with projects that been stopped and had already turned into blight".  (30)

Jeff  Bridges lost his home in an earthquake (31) when his natal midpoint was triggered by the P. Sun and the aspect appearing also in his SR.    When 2018 mudslides damaged his home, Vesta=Chiron again appeared in his SR.  (32)

Destruction is not characteristic of most Vesta/Chiron habitats.  "Definitely very lived in" was the description of Clarence House, the Queen Mother's home, when it underwent renovation in 2003.  Even back in the 1980's it was "comfortably threadbare...when an assistant tried to close a curtain, it was so fragile her hand went straight through it". (33)  This was the home into which Princes William and Harry, with their respective Vesta/Chiron symbolism, eventually moved, along with their father and Camilla, who also had a progression of Vesta and Chiron. 

"Healing the wounds"

The aspect appears with conservation and landmarks preservation, the "healing" of degenerated locations.  Jackie Onassis and Lady Bird Johnson are both remembered for sprucing up the place.  Lady Bird campaigned  to 'beautify America',  replacing junkyards with flowers along the nation's highways.  The Highway Beautification Act was signed into law (34) with t. Mercury triggering her massive natal picture of Sun=Moon=ASC=Mercury=Vesta=Chiron.  The aspect appeared in her SR too.  Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis "built her historic preservation legacy" through her restoration of the White House.   Born with ASC=Moon=Vesta/Chiron, the restoration began with a precise progressed contact of ASC=Vesta/Chiron.   "It would be sacrilege merely to redecorate it—a word I hate. It must be restored," (35) She was also instrumental in the  National Historic Preservation Act (36) whose passage was marked by a transiting aspect of Vesta and Chiron, both in aspect to  her Chiron.   Playwright John Guare is married to the director of the New York Landmarks Preservation Foundation.  (37) His Venus=Vesta/Chiron. 

Nations

Vesta/Chiron symbolizes locations with few modern western amenities, such as those inhabited  by people who chose to live off the grid.  The experiences of westerners in third world countries are also commonly described by Vesta/Chiron.  Ted Kennedy was visiting South Africa during a progressed contact.  "Ignoring the government's advice, Kennedy passed the night in Tutu's modern bungalow in Soweto...the first white to sleep in the tortured township." (38)

Marlon Brando visited Southeast Asia when t. Chiron was stationary conjunct n. Vesta.  "From afar I'd admired the efforts by the industrialized countries to help poorer nations improve their economies.  But I found something quite different...the industrialized countries were still exploiting the economies of these former colonies....and most Westerners lived in hermetically sealed capsules of villas, servants, bourbon and all white country clubs." (39)  

Empress Carlota

She had Vesta/Chiron (as well as Vesta/Hades.  Tthere is an overlap between Hades and Chiron; both Vesta/Hades and Vesta/Chiron can symbolize a home with fewer ameneties)

It's in the charts of people who leave their own or other peoples' countries the worse for wear.  On the day Columbus reached The New World, Vesta and Chiron formed a tight square.  His legacy in the New World includes the deaths of millions in what is characterized as genocide. (40)

 "The sun never set on the British Empire" (44) while Victoria was queen. Born just a few days away from William Mayo, she also had the wide opposition, which included every outer planet, as well as the Sun at the midpoint.  Various contacts corresponded with  innumerable relevant events, such as the establishment of The Raj in India, when her MC came to Vesta/Chiron by solar arc, precisely.  During the British occupation, India's share of the world's GDP fell from 23% to just over three %. (41)

Several colonialists had the natal picture.  Cecil Rhodes, diamond mining magnate and founder of the South African state, wanted to create a Secret Society  "For the extension of British rule...the more of the world we inhabit the better it is for the human race" including "the ultimate recovery of the United States of America".  Rhodes initially went to Africa to farm with his brother, but the land was unsuitable. (42)  That particular SR contained Mercury and Saturn on the Vesta/Chiron midpoint, illustrating the challenge he faced with his brother, in their attempt to farm land not conducive to farming, also characteristic of this aspect.     
Mussolini was born with no prominent natal aspect, but his earliest days in power were marked by  p. Chiron stationing just two minutes from n. Vesta.  For the rest of his life, the orb was never greater than 14'.   He attempted to create the New Roman Empire, imposing the "natural law of 'stronger people' colonizing 'inferior...barbaric' " Slavs and Ethopians.  Back home in Italy, he forced landowners to grow wheat on unsuitable soil using modern agricultural advances.  Although the harvest increased, prices rose, consumption fell, unrealistic tariffs were imposed and the farming scheme pushed the country into debt.  (43)
Mao had no colonialist ambitions but like Rhodes and Mussolini, he attempted and failed to extract unrealistic results from farms during the Great Leap Forward, resulting in the death by starvation of tens of millions of Chinese (44).  Mao was born with a conjunction of Vesta, Chiron and Ceres.

Chiron/Vesta The Duke had to rush back from meeting President Roosevelt in Washington when Nassau exploded in the famous “Burma Road” riot in June, 1942, resulting from unequal pay to Bahamian labourers on June 1-2, 1942.  This could have been Pallas/chiron poor treatment of workers

In Art, Literature and Entertainment

The settings for Vesta/Chiron art and literature are bleak or in decline, remote and often lonely.  When Vincent Van Gogh was 19 years old, P. Chiron stationed six minutes from N. Vesta and for the rest of his life the orb was never greater than 15'.  When he was a young minister,  he preached in "one of the most inhospitable regions in western Europe".  (45)   His first masterpiece,  The Potato Eaters, depicts a dark, shabby room.  A year before his death, floods damaged his apartment, ruining several paintings.   One month later, he committed himself to a mental hospital, where he painted more masterpieces like The Starry Night, his view from a room with barred windows. (46)   Actors with the symbolism play hospitalized characters.

Ruins are some sometimes symbolized by Vesta/Chiron.  A decayed desert relic is the setting of one of Percy Bysshe Shelley's most famous poems, Ozymandias. (47)

When Michelangelo left home and arrived in Rome, p. Vesta precisely with n. Chiron.  In order to sell something, he treated a sculpture of Cupid with acidic earth so that it could be sold as an ancient statue found at an excavation. (48)

William Wordsworth worked in hut that he built, with just a bench inside. (49)  His poems depict rural life with its charms and without them.  From The Wanderer: (50)

As a young architect, Thomas Hardy cleared an old cemetery to make way for a railroad. (51)  That's one way his natal Vesta/Chiron operated.  e's knownHis novels and poems are "set  against the bleak and forbidding Dorset landscape", a description of his work that's repeated on 21 websites.  Two were silent in a sunless church Whose mildewed walls, uneven paving-stones And wasted carvings passed antique research  Her Dilemma (52)

In an urban version, Gwendolyn Brooks' poem In The Mecca, contains a twist on Chiron's myth, a mother in Chicago's south side, searching for her lost daughter in what once was a super luxury apartment building,  replete with atriums and fountains, (54) "home to captains of industry and political elite."  (55)  After their migration to the suburbs, it became "A great grey hulk of brick...topped by an ungainly smokestack...the dirt courtyard is littered with newspapers and tin cans, milk cartons and broken glass... it remains a memory of urban blight," (56) a description  taken from a magazine article, and quoted by the poet on the title page.   

Predictable plots created by Vesta/Chiron writers are found all over books and TV.  A family trying to save their estate from ruin (Monarch of the Glen); (57) a displaced  Englishwoman married to an exile, living in a remote, dilapidated mansion on a neglected estate in South America, on which draught and disease have taken their tolls (Keepers of the House). (58)  But occasionally there's something outside the box,  like the premise of visiting or living in a different world, such as Thomas More's Utopia (59) or Rod Serling's The Twilight Zone, or Tolkien’s middle earth.

In closing, the typical experience of the reader with this aspect might be an interest in conservation or restoration, or simply finding yourself in a place with few amenities or a home that needs a little or a lot of work.
